DESIGN PROPOSAL

The tatami mat was chosen as it modulates between the industrial scale of the container and the human scale of the inhabitants the container is based on the imperial measurement system, while the tatami mat is based on the dimensions of the human body: half a mat to stand on, one mat to lie down on.

Taking the Katsura Villas as a reference of a habitation composed of tatami mats, we propose a village based on a container units that take into account privacy, shared circulation, curated private and public spaces, self-subsistence, and minimal impact to the environment.
